
Direct Guidance
Leela Kalow and Dean Yerushalmy are the only two people in Santa Cruz, California teaching classes based on the work and philosophies of Ido Portal under his direct guidance in his Mentorship Program. Their varied backgrounds in sports and dance organically lead them to study with Ido and his guidance and teachings have transformed their lives and practice forever. They are passionate about sharing this work and their studies with their students at SCM. They design and program every class offered at Santa Cruz Movement.

Leela is originally from Santa Cruz, where she dedicated much of her youth to serious study in dance.

Dean is originally from Tel Aviv, Israel where he grew up actively playing sports, surfing, and served in the Navy.

Leila became a student of Dean and Leela in 2018 after nearly 15 years of intensive percussion and dance studies.

Tad joined Santa Cruz Movement in 2021. With a background in various sports, he embraced the holistic movement philosophy, enhancing his wellbeing and incorporating it into his therapy work.

Haley is a Santa Cruz native with a lifelong passion for movement.

Nico Secunda is a movement teacher who is currently also the Executive Director and Chief Instructor at Aikido of Santa Cruz.

Leela Kalow and Dean Yerushalmy open Santa Cruz Movement to teach movement practice based on the work of Israeli trainer Ido Portal which combines spinal health, strength, mobility and coordination. After a pandemic-forced delay, Kalow and Yerushalmy opened their current studio in March 2021.
